It’s Time To Call for Professional Bathroom Remodeling

A homeowner with the right skills could easily renovate their own bathroom, but that requires time and energy they may not have. This is why the use of professionals can help design a new bathroom in a variety of styles. With the new year quickly approaching, the time to add value and functionality to the bathroom is now. In this article, plumbing experts share some insight into the latest remodeling trends and what to consider when renovating a bathroom.

Popular Sink Designs & Features

The sink is just as important as the shower or the toilet. Choosing the right sink means picking the size, style, and features needed to fulfill the homeowner’s needs. Check out these popular sink designs and characteristics:

  • Wall-Mounted Sinks: Wall-mounted sinks give homeowners more space and a more modern look to their bathroom. These are mounted to the wall, and the plumbing ties into the rest of the bathroom. These are compact and aren't as bulky as vanity sinks.
  • Pedestal Sink: Pedestal sinks are luxurious and space-saving. They are generally more narrow than a wall-mounted sink or a vanity sink. They are durable, chip-resistant, and come with an overflow drain.
  • Vessel Sink: Vessel sinks are popular in modern bathrooms. A homeowner can choose to have them sit on top of the vanity or be dropped into the countertop like a regular sink. They may be recessed entirely or partially and come in various designs and materials. Glass seems to be the most popular choice.

When To Replace a Toilet and With What Kind

How is a homeowner supposed to know when it's time to replace their toilet? The three main reasons a homeowner would need to replace a toilet is if it's leaking, constantly runs, or there’s a crack in the tank. Other reasons include age, frequent clogs, and a toilet that doesn’t flush.

There are more toilets on the market now than there ever have been. Here are some of the most popular ones and the features that go with them:

  • Gravity-Fed Toilets: These toilets have a flush valve that uses gravity to flush the waste. These use very minimal water pressure, thus, conserving water with each flush. They are quieter than pressure-assisted toilets. Be advised that the cheaper models may not flush the waste down properly.
  • Pressure-Assisted Toilets: These toilets rely on compressed air to forcefully flush waste down the line. These are ideal for larger families, but they are noisier. To use one of these toilets, the home has to have a minimum of 25-pounds per square inch of water pressure.
  • Dual Flush Toilets: If the homeowner wants to save money on their water bill, dual flush toilets are a great choice. These only use one gallon of water for a light flush and about 1.5-gallons of water for a heavy flush. They are generally easy to clean and are less prone to cracking and abrasions. They’re simple to install and attractive.
  • Smart Toilets: If the homeowner is looking to go all out on their bathroom, a smart toilet is a good choice. They can offer air drying, heat drying, LED lighting, remote controls, automatic rising toilet seat, and more. These are expensive but worth it.

How About a New Shower or Tub?

Lastly, the shower or tub. This is the part of the bathroom that most homeowners spend the most time with. It’s also one of the most time-consuming parts of a bathroom remodel, especially if it’s a complicated setup. Here are some popular types of showers and tubs:

  • Shower & Tub Combo: No, this isn’t the average design. This is a tub, and a shower placed separately in a bathroom. Many people are opting for this setup because it’s more modern, attractive, and somebody could take a shower while the other is taking a bath. A wood-skirted bathtub with an adjacent shower seems to be what’s trending this year.
  • Standup Shower With Glass Doors: Standup showers are becoming increasingly popular as they save space and are easier to maintain. These types of showers paired with glass doors bring in a lot of natural light. Let’s face it- nobody likes to take a shower in the dark.
  • Rounded Showers: Rounded showers are great for small bathrooms. They take up less space, have just enough room for one person to shower, and are aesthetically pleasing. These showers come with doors that slide on tracks rather than swing open.
